What it is
Exploded View is an independent publication about AI, tech, and software engineering. Each issue takes one idea apart, the way an exploded-view drawing shows every part of a machine and how the parts fit together.
An issue has two parts: a short email, and an interactive explainer on this site. In the explainer you can change the inputs and check the numbers yourself.
How we check facts
Every issue has a public ledger of its claims. The method is the same each time:
- A source for every claim. Each claim is tied to a source, a primary one wherever it exists, with the exact quote or data that supports it.
- Every calculation recomputed. Each number we derive is worked out again step by step, and the steps are published.
- A second pass. Before publishing, a skeptical read tries to disprove each claim. What it finds is written down.
- Labels and corrections. Estimates are labelled as estimates. Corrections made before publishing are listed in the ledger.
